Artist Statement
"I find inspiration in sports heroes, especially sports heroes from the past. I explore the mythology of heroes and however strong or imperfect they are, I still believe that we need heroes against whom we can measure our own level of commitment and ability in any activity we set out to do.

In portraits, whether in humans or in pets, I like to portray characteristics that captures the moment that identifies that individual the most with their audience.
Sometimes it's the noble gesture (Dressage Horse), or quiet reflection ("Toothpick" Jones) or the anticipation of achieving one's goal (Weir). Often times it's the delight that is expressed when the subject's dominant characteristic is joy (Opal). All the various ways of working with paint interest me. Many of Banjo Lea's works do not begin with a predetermined finished theme (Green Gophers) and an abstract piece entitled "Left-Overs" (Left-Overs) was done with left-over acrylic paint from colours I had used in the Hal Lewis collection commission.

Commissioned pieces are a favourite of mine to do as I enjoy the challenge (see Babe Ruth). I want to express the vision of the client, but I also want to express my own style of painting so that the finished painting is a cherished and unique work of art."

About Commissions
If you have an image that you would like to have painted, there are a variety of mediums to choose from. Generally, the results achieved from watercolour are detail of Blue Vase softer and more "romantic". Graphite/pencil can produce a sharper, starker image. Acrylic paints can produce bolder colours and more stylized images . And oil paints can produce a more realistic image . *Oil paintings take the longest time to produce because they need on average at least four months to dry/cure.

Request time and completion date depends on the amount of current work that is being done. However, usually 4 to 6 weeks is the average turnaround time for a completed painting (unless it is an *oil painting). Upon request by the client, progress reports and images can be sent to the client for process approval. Canvas sizes range from small 7" x 9" to large 46" x 30" and upwards. Prices depend upon the size of work and the complexity of the image. Commissioned work is guaranteed satisfactory. Shipping, packing and insurance is paid for by the buyer.
