Banjo Lea, the artist, came into being in 2004, the first year of the Drift ( www.thedrift.ca ). I had wanted to showcase work that was different in style then what people generally associate with my own work, so Banjo became a vehicle to do this. Banjo's work is usually smaller in style, more abstract in many cases and sometimes more intuitively completed. "Green Gophers" is an example of how the image was realized without knowing beforehand what the finished image would be.

The name
"Banjo Lea" comes from Banjo Paterson, an Australian poet who wrote "Waltzing Matilda"; a favourite song of mine because of its nonsensical lyrics. "Lea" is my middle name.
